These glass blowing classes are designed for those that are looking to get into glassblowing for a career or hobby. If Boro Beginners Workshop is getting your feet wet, this is definitely jumping off the deep end. These private lessons have been divided into three, three hour preliminary lessons.
- Lesson 1: Health, Safety, and Solid Work – Here we are going way more in depth in terms of consultation, and much more slowly as we instill proper fundamentals to build a solid career path. We explore health and safety, the primary tools needed, color theory, flame chemistry and more all while using solid rods. Finally we do a project at the end that utilizes all the new skills just learned.
- Lesson 2: Tubing / Blown work – Here the difficulty is amplified. Tubing represents its own challenges. The same basic maneuvers you may have conquered in Lesson 1, will challenge you in Lesson 2. We will be going through a similar process such as how to break down tubing safely, and all the different ways to do so. How to repurpose and open up blow tubes. Straight sealing vs pulling points. Then finally we will be working on actually blowing and shaping the glass, again in projects you’ll get to take home.
- Lesson 3: Function – Here, we’ll actually be bringing your projects to life. Different from most other mediums, glass is usually meant to be interacted with a user. It doesn’t matter if it’s a pipe, pendant, drinking glass, or menorah. They all have their own set of rules so that they can function properly in the life they are about to live. This lesson is a bit more individualized as we’ll begin to talk about what interests you, and what you types of projects you will start to make. This could be piping, marbling, goblets etc. We’ll go over specific types of tools and materials you’ll need to complete the tasks. Also, some of the characteristics and rules that accompany that particular item.
